Cox hunting ‘Cougar’ gig

admin     News & Rumors, Projects     0 Comments

“Friends” star Courteney Cox has joined forces with “Scrubs” creator Bill Lawrence to concoct a new half-hour comedy for ABC.

“Cougar Town,” which reps Cox’s return to the sitcom world, has been picked up to pilot by the Alphabet net. ABC Studios is behind the single-camera half-hour.

Lawrence and Cox will exec produce “Cougar Town,” which stars Cox as a newly single 40-year-old mom. Lawrence is writing the pilot alongside “Scrubs” scribe Kevin Biegel.

Both Lawrence (through his Doozer banner) and Cox (through her Coquette shingle) are in the midst of development deals at ABC Studios.

“Cougar Town” would be Cox’s first series since FX’s “Dirt,” which she starred in and exec produced. ABC Studios was also behind that show.

More recently, Cox shot a guest appearance on “Scrubs” — which served as a reunion of sorts for the star and scribe. Lawrence was a season one writer on “Friends” before moving on to co-create “Spin City.”

Lawrence is finishing up post-production on the eighth season of “Scrubs,” which moves to ABC this year.

“Cougar Town” comes as the idea of the “cougar” — a middle-aged woman who pursues younger men — continues to resonate through pop culture. TV Land, for example, has Mike Fleiss reality show “The Cougar” in the works.

Bewitching Courteney Cox casts a spell over A-List Hallowe’en party

Courteney Cox traded red carpet glamour for scary new look at a star studded Hallowe’en party over the weekend.

The former Friends star and her husband, David Arquette, arrived at a bash held by Kate Hudson dressed as a witch and wizard – complete matching pointy hats.

Supermodel Cindy Crawford was also spotted at the A-list do in Brentwood, Los Angeles, giving her best impersonation of Amy Winehouse at the bash.

Beehive stacked high, make-up caked on her face and arms covered in mock tattoos, the supermodel’s resemblance to the troubled singer was uncanny as she arrived at the star-studded event.

She opted for a strappy leopard print dress and huge hoop earrings to complete Amy’s trademark look.

Kate Hudson’s step-father Kurt Russell looked dapper as a smartly turned-out sea captain.

And Spider-man actor Tobey Maguire, 33, wore a lumberjack shirt and a baseball cap emblazoned with the legend: ‘I love my white trash wife’.

Across town at a separate party, Gwen Stefani won the prize for the most bizarre costume after dressing up as a fried egg.

Courteney Cox, Demi Moore make directorial debuts

admin     News & Rumors     0 Comments

When women make movies, Hollywood pays attention, as scores of A-listers turned out to see Demi Moore, Courteney Cox and screenwriter Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith make their directorial debuts.

Jennifer Aniston, Lucy Liu, Sheryl Crow, Kirsten Dunst, Sacha Baron Cohen, Ashton Kutcher and David Arquette were among the stars who gathered at the Directors Guild headquarters Tuesday for Glamour magazine’s annual Reel Moments event, where Moore, Cox and Smith each showed a short film based on stories by Glamour readers.

“It’s a tremendous gift” to have the opportunity to direct, Moore said. “I realized, besides being completely terrified about taking this on, that people had faith in me far more than I had in myself, and that I will keep for the rest of my life.”

Moore’s 12-minute film, “Streak,” features her daughter Rumer Willis as a free spirit who inspires a calorie-counting college girl (Brittany Snow) to shed her restrictive lifestyle and have fun.

Cox showed “The Monday Before Thanksgiving,” a 19-minute drama about a woman who finds peace and acceptance on the anniversary of her mother’s death. Cox opened the program by announcing, “I’m available for directing.”

“I love it,” she said in an interview. “I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

Smith, whose writing credits include “Legally Blonde” and “The House Bunny,” showed “The Spleenectomy,” a surreal comedy starring Anna Faris as a community-theater actress who stumbles into a life-or-death audition.

Stars celebrated at a private after-party at the Chateau Marmont. Guests included Matthew Perry, David Spade, Paul Haggis and James Van Der Beek.

Reel Moments, now in its fourth year, invites actresses and other women in entertainment to adapt and direct films based on real women’s stories, said Glamour publisher Bill Wackermann. Past participants include Aniston, Dunst, Kate Hudson, Rita Wilson and Rosario Dawson.
